Inheritance of some pomological traits in Minaret × Betinka apricot progeny

In the years 2005, 2006, and 2007 the described pomological characteristics were evaluated and both heritability and correlation coefficients of the determined characteristics of parents and progeny were estimated for the Minaret × Betinka apricot hybrid population. Estimated heritability of fruit weight, over colour and flesh consistency was approximately 0.9. Heritability of flesh colour, fruit attractiveness and fruit flavour ranged from 0.6 to 0.9. Preliminary results of in vivo thermotherapy of plum, apricot and peach cultivars artificially infected with PPV-M and PPV-D strains of Plum pox virus

The elimination of Plum pox virus (PPV) in different stone fruit cultivars was verified by the method of thermotherapy in vivo. Trees of two plum cultivars Čačanská lepotica and Švestka domácí, apricot cultivars Leskora and Velkopavlovická, and peach cultivars Redhaven and Earliglo were used. They were infected artificially with two strains of the virus (PPV-D, PPV-M). Two cycles of thermotherapy in vivo were performed. During the first cycle, 16 trees of plum, apricot and peach were treated for 15 days at 37°C. Influence of leafroll on local grapevine cultivars in agroecological conditions of Central Anatolia region

Leafroll is one of the most important virus diseases of vineyards of Central Anatolia region. Grapevine leafroll associated viruses GLRaV-1 and GLRaV-3 are the most frequently encountered viruses related with leafroll disease of grapes. The effect of leafroll disease on yield and fruit quality was studied. The disease caused in the average 31.22% decrease of berry weights and 28.72% reduction in total soluble solids, while titratable acidity was increased by 24.39%. Elimination of Grapevine fanleaf virus in grapevine by in vivo and in vitro thermotherapy

In this paper, results of the in vitro treatment are compared with those of in vivo therapy (i.e. treatment of plants in a peat substrate) when eliminating GFLV (Grapevine fanleaf virus) from three grapevine rootstocks. Therapy took 45 days under the temperature of 37°C in both cases. As far as the health condition of treated plants was concerned, no differences were found between the two methods. The differences were manifested in numbers of plants dying during the therapy and in the course of cultivation of apical segments treated with thermotherapy. Variations and abnormalities of stamen morphologies in cornelian cherry (Cornus mas L.) cultivars

: Stamen morphologies of six cornelian cherry cultivars (Degirmendere, Erkenci Degirmendere, İri Bardak, Yuvarlak Bardak, Uzun Memeli, and Bugur) (Cornus mas L.) were evaluated using scanning electron, light and stereo microscopes. Flowers of cornelian cherry cultivars generally had four stamens, but a few of them had three or five stamens. Abnormal and normal stamens were found together in the cultivars examined. Effect of pre-sowing treatment on seed germination and seedling vigour in endive and chicory

The influence of pre-sowing treatments using hydropriming, osmopriming and halopriming in laboratory and/or nursery tests on seedling emergence, seedling weight and plant growth of endive and chicory was examined. Halopriming (KNO3) or growth regulators (gibberelic acid; GA3) improved the rate of germination of endive and chicory and reduced the mean germination time needed. 30 min pre-sowing treatment with NaHClO3, methyl jasmonate and dictamus essential oil decreased seed germination as well as seed radicle length in vitro.
