Hort. Sci. (Prague), 2003, 30(1):1-6 | DOI: 10.17221/3810-HORTSCI

An investigation was carried out to establish the basic relationship between mechanical resonance, firmness, chemical composition and ethylene production during the maturity time and the ripening time of peach fruit. The stiffness factor calculated by a non-destructive frequency response technique was compared with biological properties obtained by measurement of chemical composition, firmness and ethylene production in the internal atmosphere of tested fruit. The correlation between the biological multifunction and the mechanical resonance frequency of peach fruit can be expressed by an exponential relationship. Multifactorial index seems to describe...

Variability of the content and quality of some active substances within Achillea millefolium complex

Š. Špinarová, K. Petříková

Hort. Sci. (Prague), 2003, 30(1):7-13 | DOI: 10.17221/3811-HORTSCI

The present paper compares the production of active substances in different subspecies of Achillea millefolium complex growing in the Czech Republic. Representatives of 7 subspecies of A. millefolium complex (A. setacea Waldst. et Kit., A. asplenifolia Vent., A. pratensis Saukel et Langer, A. collina Rchb., A. styriaca Saukel et Langer subsp. bohemica, A. millefolium subsp. millefolium, A. pannonica Scheele) and several natural hybrids of Achillea L. were collected from 75 natural habitats in different parts of the Czech Republic. Plants were...

Genetic resources of the genus Cucumis and their morphological description (English-Czech version)

E. Křístková, A. Lebeda, V. Vinter, O. Blahoušek

Hort. Sci. (Prague), 2003, 30(1):14-42 | DOI: 10.17221/3812-HORTSCI

Czech collections of Cucumis spp. genetic resources includes 895 accessions ofcultivated C. sativus and C. melo species and 89 accessions of wild species. Knowledge of their morphological and biological features and a correct taxonomical ranging serve a base for successful use of germplasm in modern breeding. List of morphological descriptors consists of 65 descriptors and 20 of them are elucidated by figures. It provides a tool for Cucumis species determination and characterization and for a discrimination of an infraspecific variation. Obtained data can be used for description of genetic resources and also for...
